First, we'll take you to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp where you'll learn about the tragic history of the Nazi regime. Then, we'll whisk you away to the city of Kings - Potsdam - where you can witness the breathtaking parks and palaces of the Hohenzollern monarchy.

We'll pick you up from your hotel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. Your guide will share with you the haunting history of Sachsenhausen before leading you on a walking tour of the site.

Next, we'll head to Potsdam, crossing the famous 'Bridge of Spies', where you'll be mesmerized by the stunning beauty of the New Gardens, the Cecilienhof Palace, and the grandeur of the Sanssouci Palace - the heart and soul of Potsdam.

Itinerary

You will pass through the camp gates and beneath the chilling words ‘Arbeit Macht Frei’ (‘work will set you free’). Inside the memorial site, you will spend time at the Jewish barracks, the kitchen and laundry block, the Appelplatz roll call area, the camp prison, the pathology and hospital buildings, and Station Z – the execution grounds and killing center. You will also learn how Sachsenhausen was used by the Soviets as special camp 7/1, with a further 60,000 prisoners kept there after 1945, 12,000 of whom fell victim to hunger, disease, and maltreatment.

Sanssouci Park

From the Brandenburg Gate, the tour enters the lavish Sanssouci Gardens through the Church of Peace, the burial site of various Prussian monarchs, and passes by the Picture Gallery.

You will then approach Frederick the Great’s iconic Sanssouci Palace, the heart and soul of Potsdam, from the bottom of its magnificent, tiered vineyard. Walking around the entirety of the palace you will see the grave of Frederick the Great and learn why locals pile potatoes on top of it instead of flowers. You will also visit the Ruinenberg and the historic windmill.

Neues Palais

Lastly, you will drive on to the Neues Palais, to marvel at the most grandiose of all the palaces on the Potsdam palace grounds.

Important Information

Please note that Sanssouci and Cecilienhof Palaces are closed on Mondays. On Mondays, tours can take place without interior visits.

 

Meeting and Pickup:

You will be picked up directly from your hotel or a prearranged meeting point.

At the end of the tour you will be dropped off at your hotel or a prearranged drop-off point.

 

Cancellation Policy:

  •  For groups of 1-6 people: free cancellation up to 48 hours in advance.
  • For groups of 7+ people: free cancellation up to up to 7 days ahead. From 6 days in advance to 48 hours in advance, a 50% fee will apply.
  • Cancellations less than 48 hours ahead or no-shows result in no refund.

 

Please note: There will be regular bathroom and refreshment breaks throughout the tour. However, we recommend that you bring snacks with you, as there is nowhere to purchase food or drinks at Sachsenhausen.
