Description

This 2-hour walking tour of Hamburg’s historic centre visits all the highlights and ‘must-see’ monuments of Germany’s second-city.

You will be met at your hotel by your and head to Hamburg’s Old Town Square, where your local, professional guide will introduce Hamburg’s history in front of the stunning, sky-scraping, neo-renaissance Town Hall. Delving deeper into one of Germany’s enduring ‘Free Cities’, you will then head into Deichstraße – devastated by the Great Fire of 1842 and home of the iconic red-brick ‘Kontor’ buildings. Next you move on towards the Church of St. Nicholas, to bask in the splendour of one of the finest examples of north German, neo-gothic architecture – the burnt out tower now standing as a reminder of the hellscape Hamburg became after Allied icendiary bombings in WWII.

Continuing on into the heart of the Medieval City you will cross the Nikolaifleet Canal over Hamburg’s oldest bridge: the Trostbrücke. Next we explore the Speicherstadt – the city’s first UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site and the largest warehouse district in the world. Once you’ve spent some time in the city’s coolest Kiez (neighbourhood), the tour will finish under the eaves of the Elbphilharmonie – a true modern architectural gem and one of the most acoustically advanced concert halls on the planet.

At the end of the tour your guide will happily spend some time answering questions and giving recommendations to help you plan out the rest of your stay.
