Description

See the Reichstag, which now stands as a bold symbol of modern German democracy, and the towering column of the Siegessäule, erected to commemorate Prussia’s military victories in the 19th century. Pass by the Brandenburg Gate, one of Berlin’s most recognizable landmarks, before following in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, and crossing the border at Checkpoint Charlie, the frontier of the Cold War. Visit the iconic concrete stelae of the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe and learn about the tragedy of the holocaust, then make your way to Hitler’s Bunker, the site of the Nazi leader’s final days during World War II.

You will also explore the old Nazi government quarter where you can see some remaining examples of Nazi architecture, such as the former Luftwaffe Headquarters, before making your way to Museum Island, the city’s architectural center and a UNESCO world heritage site. Gaze upon the beautiful Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral) and the newly reconstructed City Palace. Discover St. Hedwig’s Cathedral and the State Opera House, two stunning examples of Berlin’s architectural heritage, then make your way to the book-burning memorial in Bebelplatz, which acts as a somber reminder of the Nazi regime’s censorship and suppression of intellectual freedom.

Driving along Unter den Linden, the old royal boulevard, your expert guide will show you the former Soviet Embassy, a symbol of the city’s Cold War history, before dropping you off at Friedrichstrasse, the former heart of the roaring 1920s in Berlin. From here, you can decide whether you would like to go on a cruise of the river Spree or spend some time exploring the many shops and restaurants in the area.

The one-hour river cruise is an opportunity to explore the German Government Quarter, including the German Chancellery, as well as sites just outside of the inner city, such as the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of World Cultures) and the beautiful cobbled streets of the Nikolaiviertel.
