The Best Rooftop Bars in Berlin

How better to welcome the last month of summer than to enjoy one of my favourite summer activities? Drinks with a view!

Here, in no particular order, are my picks for the best rooftop bars in Berlin. They’re spread out across the city, so no matter where you’re staying, there’s an Aperol Spritz and a sunset nearby!

Some of these places close their doors for the season at the end of September, so put on your sunglasses and go chase the view!

The Rooftop Terrace at the Hotel de Rome

The outdoor rooftop above one of the swankiest hotels in Berlin is right in the heart of the historic city centre, overlooking the gorgeous Bebelplatz and nearby Museums Island. Whether you have spent your day shopping until you drop at Galleries Layfayette or gasping at the beauty of Nefertiti in the Neues Museum, this classy spot is the perfect place to relax.

Address: Behrenstraße 37 (Near Stadmitte U2)

Open 2pm -11pm (weather permitting)

Amano Rooftop

With a great view over the Scheunenviertel and beyond, the Amano rooftop is situated in the center of Berlin’s old Jewish district. This neighbourhood has it all, from the flagship stores of many popular brands, to some of Berlin best bakeries and restaurants and even a fantastic collection of small private galleries. There’s no better area in Berlin to wander around until you get lost, and a few drinks here as the sun goes down is the perfect way to find yourself again.

Address: Auguststrasse 43 (Near Weinmeisterstrasse U8)

Open everyday from 5pm. May-September. Good idea to reserve for Friday and Saturday.

Monkey Bar

The best view in the west belongs to Monkey Bar, where you can sip your spritz whilst overlooking the Berlin Zoo to the north, or the Kurfürstendamm and Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church to the south. A must visit for any rooftop afficionado in Berlin, this indoor-outdoor space sits on the tenth floor of the 25hours Hotel, smack in the middle of downtown west Berlin. Whether you plan to stroll along the famous Ku’damm, shop for the finer things in life at KaDeWe or take in the fractured beauty of the bomb damaged Memorial Church, no visit to Berlin’s west is complete without a stop at the Monkey Bar.

Address: Budapester Strasse 40 (Near Zoologischer Garten S-Bahnhof and Kurfürstendamm U1)

Open 12-2am Everyday

Klunkerkranich

Occupying the top floor of a shopping center parking garage, Klunkerkranich is the preferred hangout with a view for the hip young things of Neukölln. This southern district has seen an explosion of popularity since the closure of the Tempelhof airport in 2008. The runway area has since been converted to an enormous park and the surrounding neighbourhood is brimming with cheap eats and cold beers. Klunkerkranich is a spacious, green oasis over the bustle of Neukölln that is perfect for a late summer evening.

Address: Karl-Marx-Strasse 66 (Near Rathaus Neukölln U7)

Open 5pm – 11pm everyday

Deck 5

Klunkerkranich’s older brother, Deck 5 is the original rooftop bar on a parking garage in Berlin. This time in the ubertrendy Prenzlauer Berg of Berlin’s northeast. Deck 5, named for its location on the fifth level of the parking garage of the Schönhauser Allee Arkaden, has a floor covered with pristine white sand, so you can watch the sun set from the “highest beach in Berlin”. A huge array of delicious drinks makes this a perfect way to end your day after a visit to the nearby museums and parks, or a great way to start your night before hitting up the fantastic restaurants and bars nearby.

Address: Schönhauser Allee 79 (Near Schönhauser Allee S-Bahnhof and U2)

Open 12 -24 everyday (weather permitting)

Gallery Rooftop Bar

The new kid on the rooftop block is perched on the top of the Indigo Hotel at Mercedes-Platz in Berlin’s east. With endless views over the river Spree and the Oberbaumbrücke, Gallery Rooftop is the ideal place to kick back after finally managing to beat out hoards of tourists to get your photo in front of the infamous fraternal kiss mural on the East Side Gallery. Most visitors to Mercedes-Platz are awaiting an event either in the Mercedes Benz Arena or the Verti Music Hall, and a sunset spritz is the perfect way to kick off your night in style.

Address: Mühlenstrasse 19 (Near Warschauer strasse S-bahnhof and U1)

Open 12noon – 2am everyday
